The Department of Psychology at Jackson State University (JSU) invites applications and nominations for a 12-month, tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor to serve as the Director of Clinical Training. The successful candidate is expected to oversee our Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, to participate in the further development of the graduate program, and to establish and nurture ties between the department and other university or community-based clinical and research settings, while preserving a collegial environment in which quality learning is the goal.

Candidates must have an earned a doctorate in clinical psychology (must be licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in Mississippi) and show evidence of achieving recognition for their work commensurate with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, evidence of a distinguished scholarly record, a history of external funding,
experience with program development in professional psychology, strong communication, organizational, and clinical/supervisory skills, and evidence of commitment to working with culturally diverse students and faculty. Experience with APA and regional accreditation requirements, and previous teaching and administrative
experience in a department with a doctoral program in clinical psychology are highly desirable. Main responsibilities include administrating the doctoral program, providing clinical and research supervision to graduate students, teaching six credit hours per semester, serving as liaison to APA, coordinating externship and practicum placements, and other functions as directed by the Department Chair.

The mission of the Department is to provide a rigorous and systemic study of the science of behavior and mental processes. The central theme of our doctoral program is multiculturalism. The department has 14 faculty members (six tenured), 450 undergraduate majors, and 40 doctoral students. Psychology faculty members are
diverse in terms of specializations in psychology, gender and ethnicity. The main focus is to effectively train doctoral students to conduct research and provide psychological services to underserved and ethnically diverse populations. We are one of only two historically African American universities in the nation with an APA accredited Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology. With an enrollment of 8,000 students, the university has been designated by the State as a Comprehensive Research University with a Carnegie classification of Doctoral Intensive. The department is poised to become a leader in research and the graduation of African American clinical psychologists.

Jackson State University is a coeducational, research intensive, public institution of higher learning in which teaching, research, and service are central to its total learning environment. Located in Jackson, the capital city and the cultural, political, geographic and business center of Mississippi, the Jackson State University campus is a
scenic 125-acre tract only five minutes from downtown and less than fifteen minutes away from Jackson International Airport. New Orleans and Memphis are only a 3-hour drive from Jackson.
