Postdoctoral Opportunities

The Allendale Association, Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area

2010-06-29 09:18:40

POSTDOCTORAL OPPORTUNITIES in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin area for the 2010 - 2011 training year

The Allendale Association
is a private, not-for-profit agency dedicated to excellence and innovation in the care, education, treatment, and advocacy for troubled children, adolescents and their families. The main campus of Allendale is located in Lake Villa, Illinois, 50 miles north of Chicago. We also have a residential site in Benet Lake, Wisconsin. The currently available post-doctoral opportunities are in our residential treatment program with possible opportunities in our outpatient program. Both post-doctoral opportunities would include working with some day treatment clients. The three main programs at Allendale include:

Residential Treatment Center, providing intensive treatment to youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders, many from a background of abuse and neglect

Day Education Treatment Program (Stepping Stone), an extended-day education treatment alternative provided to youth with serious emotional and behavioral disabilities

Clinical and Community Services (Bradley Counseling Center), a community-based, outpatient counseling center with locations in Lake Villa and Gurnee, Illinois

The postdoctoral program does not advocate any single theoretical orientation but has a strong psychodynamic influence, and applicants from a background in forensic psychology are welcome to apply.

Regularly scheduled seminars include:

Disorders of the Self: a developmental, self and object relations model of psychoanalytic psychotherapy developed by Dr. James Masterson, as a means of understanding and treating disorders of the self

Family Therapy/Clinical Consultation Seminar: a focus on working with children and families using family therapy or clinical consultation and the Allendale's Counter-Response ModelSM to understand behavior and plan treatment.

The yearly stipend is $32,000. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, 2 weeks paid vacation, 8 sick days and 10 holidays/personal days. The 2010 - 2011 training year begins August 23rd, 2010.
