Men, Masculinities and the Common Good in an Era of Economic Uncertainty

*** Deadline for Submissions: October 31, 2010 ***

Men, Masculinities and the Common Good asks us to consider men’s ways of being and behaving and how they impact the health and vitality of our world in an era of global uncertainties. A world-wide economic recession, unprecedented environmental pressures, severe income disparities, and a weakened domestic social fabric challenge all of us to seek the common good in new and determined ways. In particular, we wish to examine men and masculinities and the challenges of the current era.
The American Men’s Studies Association (AMSA) invites proposals for its 19th Annual Interdisciplinary Men’s Studies Conference to be held in Kansas City, Missouri, March 31st – April 3rd, 2011. Three kinds of proposals will be considered: 1) Proposals for individual presentations (30 minutes allotted), 2) Proposals for a panel of three or four presentations on a specific topic or theme, (90 minutes allotted), and 3) Proposals for poster presentations (paper or electronic). Please see the reverse side for submission details.

All proposals should address the conference theme or engage another topic or topics relevant to the critical study of men and masculinities. We invite proposals from students, scholars, practitioners, activists and other individuals interested in men’s studies and the critical examination of men’s lives and identities as men. AMSA conference presenters typically come from academic, clinical, educational and social services and related fields but are not limited to these areas. Presentations must be based upon fully developed work or ongoing projects grounded in theoretical, clinical, educational or research-related applications. The conference provides a welcoming interdisciplinary forum in which to make a contribution and receive support for work related to men and masculinities. Please visit the 2011 Conference page at www.mensstudies.org for complete details.
1 The 2011 AMSA conference is co-sponsored by the University of Missouri Kansas City Women’s and Gender Studies Program.
