2010 Summer Research with NIDA

Summer Research with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) introduces high school and undergraduate students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences (including African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians/Alaska Natives, and Asian/Pacific Islanders) to the exciting field of substance abuse and addiction research through research placements with some of NIDA's most distinguished scientists. Students work with these scientists for 8-10 weeks starting June 1. The experience may include formal courses, participation in meetings, data collection activities, data analysis, laboratory experiments, manuscript preparation, and library research. This program emphasizes placing applicants who are from underrepresented groups, although all students who are at least 15 years old, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, currently enrolled in high school or college, and in good academic standing are eligible to apply. Graduate and medical students are not eligible for this program.

Please visit www.drugabuse.gov/pdf/sposummer.pdf to access the application brochure for the 2010 Summer Research with NIDA program. This brochure contains information about how to apply and includes information about all of the participating research sites. Also, Dr. Tamara Willis, willistd@nida.nih.gov /301-443-0441, will be happy to provide additional information. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 16, 2010.
