University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
June 21 to July 16, 2010
The Empirical Summer Program in Applied Multi-Ethnic Research provides junior investigators and early career faculty with the unique opportunity to further develop a core foundation of key statistical and methodological skills. The program also provides the investigators with the opportunity to conduct thorough analyses related to race and cultural related stressors using the most comprehensive databases available today in the field of racial mental health disparities and behavior disorders at the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) as the focus of a specific summer project. Finally, the program offers the investigators the opportunity to establish collaborative peer relationships with other junior and senior investigators that can serve as the basis for future competitive mental health grant applications, publications, and potentially innovations in both mental health knowledge and treatments.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
- Advanced Statistical Courses: To advance mental health research through the provision of advanced statistical and methodological training for junior minority investigators.
- Statistical Consultation: Fellows will be eligible to receive methodological expertise from a cadre of statistical consultants through the Stats-Chat service. Services may include, but are not limited to: Data Interpretation & Methodological Design.
- Professional Development: To provide junior investigators and early career faculty with seminal career development and guidance in the critical areas of conceptualizing racial and cultural determinants, grant writing, publishing, and navigating the academy.
